The following article will give you a flavor of one current controversy….with some surprising names.

The base line is that there is a marked shift in political orientation. Back 20-30 years ago Dr. Dobson was a great influence, there was some sense of "majority" around the Religious Right. Today Dobson is out and people like Oprah, Brian McClaren, Jim Wallis (Obama's spiritual pastor now) and Social Justice are becoming if not already the "majority" and they are the Religious Left.
I honestly believe that most people don't have a clue as to how much and how permanent this shift is. Their greatest attraction was to the younger evangelicals, but now I'm seeing them in the mainline middle and senior evangelicals.
Here are a couple of quotes from the article...
"the pragmatic, spiritually impoverished, gospel-deprived message of modern and postmodern evangelicalism"
"courage and persistence as a defender of the faith against Open Theism, not to mention his diligent defense of biblical authority against the juggernaut of egalitarianism"
"practice of softening, omitting, or denying key gospel truths about sin, judgment, the wrath of God, and the necessity of repentance. A preacher doesn’t have to affirm heresy or overtly deny truth in order to be dangerous. It is entirely possible by one’s behavior to distort or obscure the gospel message"
