This is my introduction to some of the teaching of R.C. Ryle and the 8 Symptoms are clearly present in today's church.

What I'd Have to Deny to Deny Hell
Everyone is talking about the existence of hell. Is hell a real place? Is it a literal place of literal torment? It seems ... myself a little thought experiment. What would I have to deny in order to deny hell? If I am ever to come to the point of denying the ...And don't forget Ray Comfort's classic:

The 2009 Barna Survey listed:
Four out of ten Christians (40%) strongly agreed that Satan “is not a living being but is a symbol of evil.” An additional two out of ten Christians (19%) said they “agree somewhat” with that perspective. A minority of Christians indicated that they believe Satan is real by disagreeing with the statement: one-quarter (26%) disagreed strongly and about one-tenth (9%) disagreed somewhat. The remaining 8% were not sure what they believe about the existence of Satan. There is still hope..at least in the evangelical church that Satan would just barely lose a democratic election.
Born again adults are more than twice as likely as notionals to strongly disagree that Satan is just a symbol of evil, and that Jesus sinned while He lived on earth.

There's also a short quote from this book: This is a good perspective on Luke 18:13-14.
There is no other joy on earth like that of appeased remorse: it is not only in heaven but on earth also that the joy over one sinner that repents surpasses that over ninety and nine just persons who need no repentance.

On Ray Ortlund's blog there is a good call to keep a perspective on Grace a reminder need each day.

The Gospel Is For Christians
B. B. Warfield (1851 – 1921) on why the gospel is necessary for Christians:
There is nothing in us or done by us, at any stage of our earthly development, because of which we are acceptable to God. We must always be accepted for Christ’s sake, or we cannot ever be accepted at all. This is not true of us only when we believe. It is just as true after we have believed. It will continue to be trust as long as we live. Our need of Christ does not cease with our believing; nor does the nature of our relation to Him or to God through Him ever alter, no matter what our attainments in Christian graces or our achievements in behavior may be. It is always on His “blood and righteousness” alone that we can rest.
