I have two cautions or fears, maybe these are unfounded, but come from my observations of how things work. And with how I see the church merging with the world and other religions as fast as it can.
First, people do have agendas as well as good intentions, sometimes the agendas are intentional, (on purpose), sometimes unintentional.
By definition it is difficult to discern hidden agendas, false teaching and deception.
Mat 24:23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.
Mat 24:24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
....the very elect. That's scary. I'm not sure we are in these times, but Jesus did promise us this.
So one of the things I've learned (and please note this cuts two ways) is to carefully read not only what one chooses to point out in scripture, but what might they have chosen to leave out.....maybe with all good intentions to just make their point. But still they left it out and maybe it's needed to fully understand the quoted text.
So that's why I made the comment about the Matthew passage. As you can see there is a lot in here...so when Jesus says "do" He probably means the whole context.
Anyway, I'll try to limit my judging. I did look that up and posted here:

Again there is plenty to challenge all here.
Heb 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
So maybe my working rule or thought is: read the whole Bible, chapter, paragraph; think about not only what someone quotes but what they may have left unsaid; try to discern if they are presenting the true Gospel, of Jesus the only way, the truth and life; being unashamed of the Gospel, speaking it at every occasion, and giving full voice to man's sinfulness, God's grace and mercy, as well as judgment, Christ's death on the cross and the seal of the truth of the Gospel, by his resurrection. If we hear this preached, we are cut to the heart, turn to God, receiving from God the faith to believe, repent and begin this new life of purpose, keeping our eye on Jesus the perfecter of our faith.
Jesus warns though that although this leads to the good life, in this life don't expect prosperity, worldly happiness, success; but that it is a narrow way, perhaps with trouble and persecution.
