Strong Coffee

I find it helpful to have some strong coffee available in the morning for these Bible Readings, Study and Blog Posting.

My current formula since my espresso machine gave up supporting me, is to make an espresso Aeropress, and drink that while I try to remember how to make the day's coffee.

I currently find the old Chemix makes the best coffee...after trying classic drip and French press.
The amount of coffee used makes a difference.

Since the Chemix is designed to make about 30 oz, that's plenty for my wife and I. Normally, I would use 5 full coffee measures of beans and grind myself. One measure for each 6 oz of water is about right.

Problem is my wife drinks only decaf and I regular. So I first use 3 measures to make her decaf, then I add another 3 measures of regular to make mine. Since the Chemix can handle twice the amount water when making a full batch, I found it did not seem to over brew the decaf grounds so I leave them in the filter and just add my regular...saves using a second filter.

The use of 3 measures rather than 2 1/2, gives a slightly stronger flavor and in the second pour when I make my cup it becomes even a bit stronger with the added flavor kick from the recycled decaf.

I'm not sure this would be an approved method, or if I am leaching out some of the acids by over saturating the decaf, but like I said, in normally making a full Chemix one would run the same amount of water through those same grinds, but there might be some weakening do to the first pour going into her coffee extracting the stronger flavor, while the second goes into my cup. But this I more than offset by the fullness of the first extraction of the regular grinds.

Anyway...I think I need more coffee...as this post is certainly "much to do about nothing"!
