It's sort of a big day, making it to my 800th reading on this journey. I love the Bible's use of the number twelve....12, sons, 12 tribes and 12 disciples...well not all became apostles since Judas Iscariot, was selected for a different purpose. And he was replaced by Matthias selected in Acts 1 and later Jesus personally chose Saul/Paul to this office. So having reached 800, my new goal is to get to 1,000 and then finally to 1,200. If I make it to twelve hundred, that roughly matches the 1,200 chapters in the 66 books of the Bible. BTW 6+6 is also 12 and that fact has no significance at all. So 1,200 days...at 10 chapters a day or 12,000, and with the average chapter having 26 verses that would be 312,000 verses. Applying just one of these a day, would give enough wisdom to last about 88 years...more than enough for a lifetime. Anyway the importance is not in the numbers it's in the understanding we gain about God and ourselves and how we apply it each day. Hopefully, I am encouraging some to read and understand and apply more along with me. It has become a passion, my words don't matter but reading the scriptures does. I continue with my current posting experiment ... Not sure how I like it, I may go back to individual chapter posts. this way is shorter, but it does lose the separate thoughts on the chapters, and tends to get longer or in an effort to avoid this I leave things out.So for today we have finished the Gospel of John with a great note of purpose.

Today's Reading (day 800)
Some times being the last to believe is not a bad thing. God is patient and still waiting for all his elect to hear the effectual call even almost 2,000 years later.
28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.
29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
30 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:
31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
You can read Stephen's account of this in Acts 7. It's curious the recurring connections to Egypt, from Joseph, to Moses, and even Jesus' parents going a brief time there to flee from Herod.
I don't think today being over 65 qualifies one to this office, but still good to note.
1 But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine:
2 That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience.
By the way those who might call out Paul for not preaching about good works, should read this and 2 Tim 3:17!
14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
15 These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.

So says the church, who well knew Christ her beloved's voice; which is known by all believers in him, and is distinguished by them from the voice of others; by the majesty and authority of it; by the power and efficacy of it; by its directing them to himself, and by the pleasure it gives them: and she speaks of it as being very delightful to her; it being the voice of him whom she loved, and a voice of love, grace, and mercy, of peace, pardon, righteousness, and salvation; and, being observed before, what follows shows that Christ is heard before he is seen; he is first heard of in the Gospel, before he is seen, by an eye of faith: and such would have others observe the voice of Christ as well as they, for here the church speaks to the daughters of Jerusalem; and it seems by this, that, by some means or another, Christ had been disturbed, and had departed from the church for a while, and was now upon the return to her, which made his voice the more joyful to her;
The sad fact is that many even in the church today don't hear god's voice.
