John 10 - A few verses to think upon

John opens this dialogue chapter with the teaching of Jesus as Shepard. Note 3 times Jesus says....

Joh 10:3  To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.
Joh 10:4  And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.

Joh 10:14  I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.

Joh 10:27  My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

This last verse is part of the context where Jesus responses to the Jews call for him to plainly tell them who he is......

Joh 10:24  Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly.

Joh 10:25  Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me.

Joh 10:26  But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you.

Joh 10:27  My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

Joh 10:28  And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any manpluck them out of my hand.

Joh 10:29  My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluckthem out of my Father's hand.

Joh 10:30  I and my Father are one.

Obviously they heard what he told then, since they had the appropriate reaction.

Joh 10:31  Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him.

Blasphemy laws are not just a contemporary religious concept.

We saw this before...

John 10:31

Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him. As they had done before; see Gill on Joh 8:59.

Joh 8:58  Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

Joh 8:59  Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.
